About WUC Cycling >
After the successful participation of the Dutch delegation in the 2006 WUC Cycling in Herentals, Belgium, the Dutch Student Cycling Federation (SWN) decided to place a bid on the 2008 WUC Cycling. SWN succeeded in making the most promising bid and was granted the organization of the 2008 WUC Cycling by the FISU.
Important for the success of the Dutch bid was the co-operation with the cities of Nijmegen and Groesbeek. Nijmegen has hosted many national university championships (in different sports) before and was finish place for the 2001 and 2002 Dutch professional cycling championships. Groesbeek is known for its sports venues and has a landscape well-suited for mountainbiking.
Furthermore, SWN got full support from the Radboud University (Nijmegen), its Student Sports Council (NSSR) and its student cycling club Mercurius, as they will all celebrate a lustrum in 2008.
The WUC Cycling 2008 will consist of four disciplines for both men and women:
- individual time trial
- road race
- mountainbike marathon
- cross-country
