In the time trial all contenders have to cover the race course on their own. The riders start with 1 minute time separation. In the case that one rider overtakes another, there are strict rules to prevent the riders from using each others slipstream for the period that they are in each others vicinity. During the time trial the riders use different equipment from the road race, every contender will try to be as aerodynamic as possible.
Road Race

In the road race all riders leave at the same time. The purpose is to reach the finishline first, it doesn't matter whether one wins solo, in a bunch sprint or by being in a breakaway group. Tactics are very important and riders need to work together as a team to increase the chance of winning.
