Great successes for The Netherlands at road race >

05/27/2008

The World University Championship Cycling 2008 came to a successful end, Sunday the 25th of May.

All spectators on the granstand saw riders of The Netherlands winning 5 of the 6 medals to be given on the discipline road race. The  organizing country of the event dominated. Especially the women's road race, where all places on the winner platform and the number four and five where taken by The Netherlands. Elisa van Hage (gold medal) finished one minute before Chantal Blaak (silver medal), and more than 2 and half minute before Annemiek van Vleuten (bronze medal).

For the men, Robin Chaigneau (The Netherlands) won at the last discipline of the championship. Only 46 riders where allowed to finish the last of 15 rounds, as the other 50 riders were too far behind the first rider in one of the previous rounds. Robin Chaigneau escaped of the rest of the group just before the one steep climb in the circuit. Malaya van Ruitenbeek (The Netherlands, champion time trial 2006 & 2008) came in after Michael Schweizer (Germany) in the sprint for the second place.
